The Cabot Trail Writers Festival Society is a charitable organization that strives to foster the communities of readers and writers in Unama’ki (Cape Breton)w, through the annual Cabot Trail Writers Festival (which will unfold from October 2-4, 2026) and related programming. Job Overview
The Digital Marketing Assistant is a roughly 10- to 12-week contract position that will help the festival promote and share key information and details via multiple digital platforms: social media, website, e-newsletter and ticketing platform, in addition to providing general administrative support. Work will be completed remotely, with training, oversight and support from the festival team.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
Writing and managing social media posts, events, ads and other content
Updating website
Writing and designing e-newsletters
Maintaining and updating ticketing website
Other general marketing and administrative support
Contract Details
The contract will run from approximately June 15 to September 15, 2026 (exact dates/duration to be confirmed) and to be paid at a rate of $21/hour. Work hours expected to average approximately 40 hours/month, with key deadlines to be met each month, which will be outlined prior to the contract start date.
Required Skills
Very strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with a variety of office software (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace), Mailchimp, Canva and other design programs
Basic graphic design skills
Ability to write compelling, clear and accurate copy, free of spelling/grammatical errors
Fluency with digital marketing and social media tools (particularly Facebook and Instagram)
Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail
Ability to work independently, follow direction, and complete assigned work effectively and on time
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or diploma in English, Communications, Marketing or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Previous professional or volunteer experience in a related role (e.g. writing, editing, proofreading, marketing, graphic design…)
